Manhattan Bala Vihar, let us celebrate Diwali together!! Join us for an afternoon filled with music, Diwali-inspired activities and bonding. Usher in the warmth of the festival season and enjoy a sumptuous vegetarian lunch with old friends and new.

Spirit of Diwali: Revel in the spirit of Diwali with the soulful voice of – Grammy Award winner Falu Shah!

Diwali crafts: Diyas to decorate and age old stories to be shared. Perfect time to pull out your camera and capture precious expressions of your children indulging in vibrant Diwali craft and lore.

Diwali Shrine: To consecrate our Diwali celebrations, we will build a community shrine – a representation of Goddess Lakshmi, the bestower of prosperity and wealth. We would love for you to delve deeper into the words prosperity and wealth and bring a small object that best represents these ideas for you and your family. Please bring your object to the Diwali event and help us make this shrine! More details here.

Garba: Dust off your dancing feet and be ready to swirl in your dazzling ethnic finery. For the uninitiated, there will be several skilled instructors to guide you and make you feel at ease. If you’re a pro, just jump in with all your festive fervor!

Space is limited, tickets are first come first serve.

At least one adult per family must accompany any attending children.

Object Details for Diwali Shrine

1. Select an object:

  • It can be a 2D image or preferably a 3D object. It can be something living or non-living, perishable or non-perishable.
  • It can also be an object you make – out of ANY material
  • The object’s size shouldn’t exceed 1.25′ in depth x 3′ in height x around 3-4′ in width
  • The object should be lightweight and not too heavy like a stone or bronze item
  • The object will be attached to the shrine with a cellophane or glue dot – we will try to be as careful as we can with it.

 

2. Bring the object to the event and hand it over to the BV volunteer near the shrine

3. At the time of handing over the object, write a small post-it note about your inspiration behind the object

4. If the object you gave is something valuable to you, please see our volunteers and remember to pick up the object from the shrine before you leave
